I used to believe that quitting was the ultimate failure. That if I didn’t finish every single thing I started, every project, every plan, every Bible study, every “perfect” routine, then I was somehow falling short. (heck I would try and read a whole book even if i didn’t like it because I needed to finish it)
As a recovering perfectionist, I’m learning that not finishing doesn’t always mean failing.
Sometimes it’s wisdom.
Sometimes it’s grace.
Sometimes it’s exactly the thing that frees you to focus on what really matters.
Not everything is meant to be carried to the finish line.
Some things are stepping stones, seasonal, or simply not meant to have been picked up in the first place. God can use a half-finished project to teach you just as much as a completed one.
Perfectionism keeps us stuck.
I used to delay starting because I was terrified of not finishing. The irony? I ended up missing opportunities because I was waiting for the “perfect” conditions.
Letting go makes space for better things.
When I release something I can’t (or don’t need to) finish, I make room for what God actually wants me to prioritise in this season.
The lesson is often more important than the result.
Sometimes the growth comes in the middle, not the end.
So what now?
Not finishing isn’t always failure. It’s permission to let go of the “shoulds,” embrace the season you’re in, and trust that God works through both the unfinished and the complete.
The hard thing is knowing when to stick it out and when to walk away (but I think we will leave that juicy conversation for another day!)
If you’ve been stuck in the perfectionist cycle, always starting, rarely finishing, and constantly beating yourself up about it, maybe it’s time for a different rhythm.
That’s why I created The Sunday System: 5 simple steps to reset your week with prayer, perspective, and peace — without the pressure to do it all perfectly.
Because life isn’t about finishing everything. It’s about being faithful in what matters most.
I believe in Championing your God given potential regardless of the season you are in.
